We didn’t realise we were searching for David Balfe until we heard his masterful work of art.
It is the kind of material that is so powerful, it makes everything in the commercial charts seem insignificant.
Multi-instrumentalist, producer and visual artist David Balfe, is a talent hailing from Dublin, who has revealed his latest project and it’s artistic genius.
His one-man project (and album) titled, ‘For Those I Love’ features first track, ‘I Have A Love’ which is an emotive, poetic and musical tribute to David’s talented best friend Paul Curran who passed away in 2018. Curran was a poet, musician and creative band member on previous project (Burnt Out) and now we’re all listeners of the love letter and tribute that David has so beautifully crafted for Paul.
‘I Have A Love’ captures grief in a way we’ve never heard in music. It’s powerful release has turned grief into art by focusing on friendship and the love once had, never fading or forgotten.
We see it as a lyrical mixed media canvas which combines music and sound like no other. It is complete with euphoric beats, spoken word and snippets of friends conversations, perfectly layered up whilst evoking themes of youth and nostalgia.
Honestly, if we could give this project the Mercury Prize, an Ivor Novello award and throw in a Grammy…we bloody would.
All the praise for you David Balfe, this is exceptional…we are now not so patiently waiting for the rest of the album.
