Happy IWD to all our readers!
Well let’s start by saying that everyday should be International Women’s Day, yes it’s amazing it exists, but we can’t wait for the moment when we don’t require 24 hours to celebrate everything that a women is. We have come so far in raising awareness about women’s rights, but still have so much further to go – please keep going!!
So today of all days, we wanted to celebrate the fashion industry in their response to continually pioneer and recognise talented and deserving women. It made sense for us to bring a great initiative to your attention on this particular day (IWD). This is a cause that is something that we hold close to our hearts. We can’t stress the valid importance when it comes to shaking up the world and highlighting the gap in gender equality.
Recently there have been endless amounts of stats about inequality in the workplace, an example is proving women still receive the equivalent of 77% of men’s earnings. Shocker. We know many who can vouch for this.
French fashion house Chloé have partnered with UNICEF to optimise higher learning and education opportunities for adolescent girls.
The Girls Forward campaign stars actors Katie Holmes and Lucy Boynton who will set an example and spread the word about UNICEF’s mission and its gender equality programmes, that are focusing on helping the next generation of working women. Girls Forward sets out to teach digital skills and entrepreneurial advancement as part of programmes implemented in Bolivia, Jordan, Morocco, Senegal and Tajikistan, among others. WOW!
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Chloé is debuting a T-shirt, necklace and bracelet with 100% of purchase proceeds directed towards UNICEF.* With Chloe’s support, UNICEF will help reach 6.5 million adolescent girls and young women around the world with gender equality programmes and skills to advance in the workplace.
This partnership echoes the spirit of Gaby Aghion, who founded Chloé in 1952 with one mission: give women freedom to dare to be themselves. She always encouraged women to dare and take control of their destiny, being free spirited, elegant and feminine.
“Tomorrow’s climate entrepreneur, artificial intelligence coder or science teacher is today’s diversity of adolescent girl strength. Valuing their skills and opportunities to discover who they can be is a guaranteed return of a bold vision for gender equality,” said Patty ALLEMAN, UNICEF Senior Gender and Development Advisor.
Women with secondary education, may expect to earn almost twice as much as those with no education. Investing in adolescent girls accelerates progress for all – for themselves, for families and for nations. When girls have a chance to learn, to lean in as part of a pipeline for high-value jobs and become CEOs of their own companies, they boost economic growth.
Such a great idea!! About time!!
