Anna Sui created a AW19 show with a gorgeous musical story for New York Fashion Week.
The show entitled, ‘Poptimistic’ was an ode to her hometown Detroit and the vibrant music scene which inspired a multitude of films, art and fashion.
In the run up to the show Anna had teased the theme with references to bands and films such as Cream, Irma La Douce and The Doors.
The back drop was adorned with a display created by Poster House NYC, who collated and built a wall full of psychedelic music posters. It looked so cool, the kind we want in our house that looks more art collector than grungy music venue.
Sui was clearly inspired by the explored swinging 60s fashion evident in the brocade coats and pop-punk looks. The wigs took cues from the Andy Warhol era; colourful choppy wigs were present alongside fluffy rimmed hats. The collection was full of pops of colour and motown tracks.
Kaia Gerber kicked off the show which seemed to be more of a theatrical display. Taylor Hill and Bella Hadid were also on hand to model the collection. The opening soundtrack was, ‘He Was Really Saying Something’ from the Velvelettes.
