Selecting Your Wedding Day Soundtrack
The perfect wedding should be perfect in every sense, and that means not just choosing a stunning dress and the best venue, but also ensuring that wedding reception goes off with a bang. Nowadays the reception or party after your wedding is just as important as the moment that you wed; choosing a soundtrack for your party can bring your big day to a momentous and spectacular close.
Choosing the right music to set the mood
The type of music that you choose for your wedding reception should not be just something that you personally love, but something that your guests will love too. Your choices will be swayed depending on the age of your guests as well as the own individual tastes. Finding a soundtrack that suits each and every member on your guest list may appear to be a mammoth task, but choosing a live band as opposed to a DJ is a sure-fire way to get your party swinging.
Selecting a band for your wedding reception
Once you have settled on live music for your wedding party, the next decision is what type of music you want to be played. Perhaps you love jazz, or maybe you prefer country music or classical tunes. Your choice of music will depend again on your own preferences but also on the style of reception and atmosphere you want to create. Do you want everyone to be dancing till dawn or do you dream of a chilled and relaxed atmosphere?
Choosing the soundtrack to your wedding day
Depending on just what kind of mood you are looking to create, you may choose to have a reception where everyone is seated for a formal meal whilst an orchestra play in the background. On the other hand you may feel like jiving till dawn with a soul/funk band and tracks from the 70’s. Below is a list of different options that are guaranteed to go down a storm on your big day:
- 70s and 80s tribute band
With retro being the ‘in thing’ you may like to choose a band that plays a variety of 70s and 80s classics as well as some rock ballads, soul, and R&B. This type of soundtrack is the perfect choice for both young and mature guests, everyone will hear at least a dozen songs that they love or remember.
- Jazz band
A Jazz band will create a sophisticated atmosphere on your wedding day. With a twist of Latin American Salsa and a saxophone player thrown in, your guests will choose to simply sit back and listen to the music or get up onto the dance floor and practise their salsa moves.
- Classical music/ solo artist/ piano player
Classical music will suit a more mature audience on your wedding day, and a solo artist such as a pianist can create a stunning atmosphere of background music whilst you wine and dine in style.
- Formal
If you have a large guest list, you may like to hire an orchestra, a large band, or even a choir. These arrangements work well in both indoor and outdoor venues and are most suitable when you have a large number of guests.
- Traditional
If you are proud to be Scottish, Irish, or Welsh, you may choose a traditional wedding day soundtrack that will pay tribute to your roots and country. Be careful here however to not upset half the audience when you are marrying someone whose family are not the same nationality as yourself.
- Something different and unique
Be bold and choose your favourite band, a tribute to your favourite rock star, or hire one of the professional live bands such as Vibetown who will play all night for you from their eclectic repertoire.
