Our track of the day takes a live lounge turn. We’re suckers for a lovely cover!
Fyfe (the alias of 25 year old Paul Dixon) has taken on Kanye’s ‘Through The Wire’ with this characteristically downbeat, echoed interpretation, which still retains the beats-led bones of the original (Childish Gambino is also a fan of Fyfe’s, actually) alongside vocal snippets of the big man himself.
‘Through The Wire has been stuck in my head for most of the last 10 years. The fact that Kanye West had a track on his last album named I Am A God added a certain amount of pressure to the process, but once I got over the image of him peering over my shoulder whilst I made the cover it came along quite quickly. To Kanye West purists- I’m sorry. To everyone else – I hope you enjoy it.’ – Fyfe
Older, wiser, but still just 25, Fyfe’s debut album is a journey of self-discovery from an artist and producer who has picked himself up and come back stronger. It’s the realisation, studied via everything from depression or insomnia to long-term relationships, “that the world keeps moving without you, regardless of how tight you grip it.” A pop record with a working brain and a beating heart, ‘Control’ is the sound of an artist seizing back the reigns and then letting them go, turning his paint-smeared, back-to-camera to face forwards – looking right at you, and into the future.
