Commencing the year on the BBC Sound of 2014 poll, Nick Mulvey has taken his hypnotic acoustic music to all four corners of the globe, and is building an ever-expanding army of fans everywhere besides. Having already been nominated for the Mercury Prize in his former band Portico Quartet, Nick follows that success with this year’s nomination, warranted solely on his own merits. It’s a record that stands apart from his peers, a groove-based, loose-limbed beast that showcases Nick’s otherworldly guitar-picking style, and the obtuse shapes they conjure.
I Don’t Want To Go Home has become a recent live favourite, with Nick stepping out into bigger, sold-out venues with a full band in tow. Despite that new broadness of sound, it loses none of the intimacy that made it such a highlight of his much championed debut album.
