The week before London Cocktail Week began, we visited the House of Peroni launch in Holborn. As cocktails are the topic of conversation, we encourage you to discover the new inspiration from Rome at THOP in October!
The House of Peroni returns for the FOURTH time to celebrate the culturally diverse hub of Rome that inspired the creation of Peroni Nastro Azzurro. A new generation of Italian creative talent from the worlds of food, drink, design and film will bring modern Rome to central London for the entire month of October. Guests are invited to explore the four floors of the transformed townhouse showcasing specially-commissioned artworks by Italian designers, artists and architects. LA SUA BELLA CASA!!!!
All are welcome to experience the three uniquely styled House bars and sip Mixologist Federico Riezzo’s latest creations. Enjoy innovative dishes from culinary collective Bottega Wapping that pay tribute to every aspect of Rome, with typical regional fare including slow-roasted rabbit, encrusted Roman lamb, Roman pecorino cheese and Amatriciana-style pasta.
Federico Riezzo’s drinks menu is a tribute to the Rome he knows and loves; from the ancient emperors and Roman rituals to ingredients sourced from the surrounding areas. On the first floor, you can savour drinks inspired by film such as ‘La Dolce Vista’: a refreshing, sparkling drink combining Peroni Nastro Azzurro with orange and grapefruit flavours and prosecco. On the second floor there are nods to both Roman ingredients with the ‘Veni Vidi Visci’, a zesty blend of Peroni Nastro Azzurro with spearmint and lemon, as well as the city’s history with the fiery Nerone.
Guests will be able to explore the Orange Gardens – an immersive installation inspired by the city’s famous gardens – or take a seat in Il Caffè, which brings the authentic Italian espresso bar to London. From digital mural installations to beautifully reimagined facades from Rome, The House will allow guests to rediscover the Eternal City.
Throughout the month of October there will be a weekly schedule of events for guests to book tickets for which will include:
Pasta Fresca: In this masterclass the team from Burro e Salvia, Shoreditch’s first pastificio, will teach participants how to make two types of fresh pasta – ‘A La Gricia’ and ‘Amatriciana’ – which are both a mainstay in traditional Roman Trattorias and reveal the simple, honest principles that embody a world of good taste. Making fresh pasta is all about the process, small rituals and slowing down: making things instead of buying them ready-made, enjoying a meal at home with family and friends. Participants will get to sample one of Italy’s best exports as well as being able to take their very own freshly made pasta home.
Profumo di Roma: Guests will be taken on a journey to Rome through scent and sound and learn about perfume’s Italian origins, including the use of certain scents as remedies for ailments in ancient Rome. At the end of the session, each participant will walk away with their very own “Salve of Rome”; a solid perfume based on each guest’s chosen unique blend of smells. In partnership with Odette Toilette: experts in experimental scent events.
Film Feast: Guests’ senses will be enhanced as they taste their way through Oscar & BAFTA winning film, The Great Beauty, with an innovative menu designed by The House chefs, Bottega Wapping. Film Feast is a multisensory experience pairing the sounds and sights of cinema with the tastes and smells of a menu created exclusively for the film.
Roman Royalty: Head wreaths and flower garlands were worn in Rome as symbols of victory, glory and intelligence. Guests attending this masterclass will be taught by boutique florists, Rebel Rebel, how to make their own unique and elaborate floral headdresses using authentic Italian autumnal flowers and herbs found in Rome.
Tied In Style: Fashion-forward tailors Diderot, will host an exclusive workshop at The House of Peroni which will offer guests the chance to select from amongst the latest Italian fabrics to create their very own, one-of-a-kind, bowtie. The ties are created from the finest Italian materials from the current colours and fabric trends in Italy.
Mercato Romano: Enjoy premium Italian street food as vendors including Gurmetti, Tongue ‘n Cheek and Belpassi Bros showcase exclusive menus that capture the popular new food trends from Rome. Authentic dishes with a twist will be available in a laid-back Italian setting on the terrace or in The House where Italian DJs will be playing.
The Art of Chocolate: During October in Perugia (north of Rome), the city pays homage to their most loved sweet with a festival. Flown in directly from Rome, third generation artisans of iconic chocolate brand, SAID, will teach guests about “the food of the Gods” and will work alongside them to create their very own chocolate which guests can take home.
