Brooklyn Bowl London Announces New Shows Including Dinosaur Jr., Raekwon, We Are Scientists, Zed’s Dead and Scratch Perverts
Continuing their amazing run of shows, BROOKLYN BOWL LONDON has in the past month had some of the hottest acts passing through London grace their stage; bonafide RnB legend Pharrell, indie rock forefathers The Dandy Warhols, self proclaimed ‘Funklordz’ Chromeo, prog rock mind benders Umphrey’s McGee and American rock stalwarts Gov’t Mule. Anyone that experienced these shows will know how electric the atmosphere inside Brooklyn Bowl can get and it’s only just getting started.
Just announced are shows from British hip hop mainstays Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip, Wu-Tang Clan’s ‘The Chef’ aka Raekwon, club pioneers Scratch Perverts, the great Canadian hope Zed’s Dead, indie/post-punk revivalists We Are Scientists, The Grateful Dead’s infamous Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band and the band widely recognised as “one of the most significant American rock bands of all time” Dinosaur Jr.

Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip – Sat 19/7
Originally hailing from Stanford-le-Hope in Essex, hip-hop duo Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip combine electronic beats with spoken, sung and rapped lyrics. The duo are currently on a huge UK tour following the release of their third album ‘Repent Replenish Repeat’ which released late 2013 through Sunday Best and debuted at number 22 in the UK top 40, the duo’s highest album chart position to date.
Preservation Hall Jazz Band Mon 21/7
Preservation Hall Jazz Band derives its name from the Preservation Hall venue located in New Orleans’ French Quarter. The band is known for performing traditional New Orleans-style jazz. The musicians in the groups have varied during the years since the founding of the hall in the early 1960s. Bands of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band perform at Preservation Hall on 726 St. Peter Street in the French Quarter, and tour around the world for more than 150 days a year. The band performed alongside The Black Keys and Dr. John at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony.

Raekwon – Fri 25/7
Raekwon has been a staple in the Entertainment industry since his debut in 1993 as an integral part in undeniably one of the greatest Hip-Hop groups to date, the legendary Wu-Tang Clan. Rae’s verbal ability took center stage early in the original cult classic ‘Protect Ya Neck’ and he released his solo debut in 1995 and since has recorded numerous others. Rae has previously lent his talents to countless fellow musicians through features with Kanye West, Bun B, Fat Joe, Justin Bieber and participated with is Wu Brothers, Ghostface and Method Man in the highly anticipated ‘Wu Massacre’ album in 2010. Scratch Perverts – Sat 26/7
The Scratch Perverts are a collective of turntablist DJs from London, formed in 1996 by Tony Vegas, Prime Cuts and DJ Renegade. After winning ITF titles, solo DMC titles plus two World Team DMC titles, they took on the world and won leaving behind an unmatched legacy of DJ battlers and garnering worldwide acclaim. Their reputation as turntablists led the Scratch Perverts into a whirlwind career as DJ’s. As residents at Fabric since the beginning, they showcase a knowledge and understanding of music and how it’s meant to be played.
Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band with support from JJ Grey & Mofro

Former bassist for the legendary Grateful Dead, Phil Lesh has kept his musical journey fresh by consistently putting together bands featuring dynamic musicians to keep the music of the Grateful Dead moving forward into the future. Backed by the Terrapin Family Band, official house band of Phil’s Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, CA, the collaboration will weave the classics with original music to celebrate one of the most influential bands of all time. Reel Big Fish – Thu 31/7
Aaron Barrett’s Huntington Beach, CA ska outfit — Reel Big Fish — found success in the ’90s with MTV hit “Sell Out” and an appearance alongside Trey Parker and Matt Stone as the halftime band in David Zucker’s BASEketball. The group continues to tour relentlessly, playing more than 250 shows every year, and has gained a cult-like following. (Doors: 6pm, show: 8:30pm, admission: £17)
Grandmaster Flash – Fri 01/8
Considered by many to be a founding father of hip-hop, South Bronx native DJ Grandmaster Flash used his studies of electrical engineering and a lifelong history of experimenting with his father’s records to pioneer the art of DJ-ing. Hailed as the inventor of record-spinning techniques such as backspin and punch-phrasing, Grandmaster Flash is also credited with perfecting the scratching technique, a skill now so refined that it tears down the house. North Mississippi Allstars – Sun 03/8
American southern rock/blues band North Mississippi Allstars hail from Hernando, Mississippi, and are renowned for pioneering their own brand of blues-infused rock and roll. After numerous Grammy nominations, the band earned the reputation as one of the most intriguing acts to emerge from the loam of Southern blues and roots rock.
Dinosaur Jr. – Wed 06/8
There is nothing quite like a Dinosaur Jr. performance. Widely recognized as one of the most significant American rock bands of all time; their pioneering sound pre-dates Nirvana and was instrumental in bringing the crashing sounds of lead guitar back to indie rock. It’s gonna be loud!
The Wailers perform ‘Legend’ – Thurs 07/8 & 14/8
There is no more legendary band in Jamaican music history than The Wailers. Now well into their fifth decade, they are truly living legends who embody the nobility and progressiveness of Bob Marley and his music. This year marks the 30th anniversary of their iconic album ‘Legend’, which they will be performing live for us this August.
Fun Lovin’ Criminals – Sat 09/8
NYC hip-hop rockers Fun Lovin’ Criminals – often referred to by their acronym, FLC – bring their eclectic funk, blues and jazz-infused sound to Brooklyn bowl. Best known for their hit “Scooby Snacks” which features samples from films by Quentin Tarantino, the band’s existentialist, sometimes humorous, and always relevant music often deals with issues such as crime, recreational drug use, violence, poverty and politics, sure to heat up Brooklyn Bowl’s stage. Slow Magic – Wed 13/8
Slow Magic is a self-proclaimed unknown imaginary friend, a masked DJ/Producer from the U.S. who creates dreamy and ambient electronica. With a repertoire for whispering samples and reflective melodies, Slow Magic will have the venue drenched with spacey, warm Summer vibes.
DJ Yoda – Fri 15/8
As a regular guest on BBC Radio 1 appearing alongside Steve Lamacq and Annie Mac, DJ Yoda is a hip hop turntablist who uses samples to create a cartoony musical style. His seminal How To Cut & Paste series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style that prompted Q Magazine to declare him “one of the ten DJs to see before you die”. DJ Yoda has evolved in the past ten years using his turntable skills and influences as diverse as funk, b-more, kuduro, reggae, drum ‘n’ bass and even big band swing and country & western, to make unashamed party music. With shows entwined with film, TV and YouTube samples and cinematic visuals – DJ Yoda brings a complete live experience lifting his sets to new and stratospheric heights.
Deer Tick – Mon 01/9
Deer Tick bring their American alternative rock from Providence, Rhode Island direct to Brooklyn Bowl. The band’s music has been described as rock with folk, blues and country influences. Expect cover versions in their set, including songs by the likes of The Replacements, Nirvana, John, Prine, Hank Williams, Warren Zevon and Sonny West as well as their own incredible back catalogue. We Are Scientists – Wed 22/10
The New York-based We Are Scientists came to success with their first album ‘With Love and Squalor’ in 2005 and have been pushing their indie/post-punk revivalist stance ever since. Now with their own TV show the band released their latest album ‘TV en Français’
in March of this year.
