We’ve been inspired by a mix of rock n roll fashion this month, we also go through fazes of music genre obsession and May has reignited the mosh pit era. Rock and Roll originates from the United States and interestingly did not achieve it’s title until the 1950’s after a merging of various genres forming the rock n roll movement.
Obviously rock goes beyond the musical production and is featured in films and television which influence a particular lifestyle. Themes in fashion, attitudes and languages emerged from this rock n roll cult and these heavy guitar playing bands further influenced sub music genres like indie.
If you really want to know where real rock comes from them you must visit The O2 on May the 23rd where Nine Inch Nails play in the heart of London. NIN formed in 1988 in Ohio by Trent Renzor, he is the songwriter and director of the group. Twice Grammy winners, the band have been described by David Bowie as having the same impact as the Velvet Underground.
Like fashion, the band’s style of music changes each album. Nine Inch Nails’s most famous album is “The Downward Spiral”, which amplified the token hard-rock that NIN was associated with in the nineties, however Nine Inch Nails has also produced electronic-influenced rock (“Year Zero”) and even ambient (“Ghosts”). Other material that portray NIN’s trademark style are “The Fragile” and “With Teeth”. Can we expect an electro rnb soul album this year, in keeping with their trendy approach?!
Rock n roll lyrics are often written to voice powerful opinions and Renzor is no stranger to expressing himself. Next time you see them in concert, pay attention to tracks on albums ‘The Downward Spiral” and “With Teeth ” both discuss interesting themes such as social acceptance and sobriety issues.
The band have revolutionised detailed digital production, sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and released a remarkable series of singles, including the No. 1 Modern Rock radio hits The Hand That Feeds, Only, Every Day Is Exactly the Same and Survivalism.
You’d be a fool to not go and rock at The 02 on the 23rd of May, we’ll hopefully see you guys crowd surfing very soon!
