A Round Up Of New York Fashion Week 2013 by Guest Blogger Stephanie Potter
So New York Fashion Week has come and gone. The fashion designers, bloggers and
journalists have packed up the circus and de camped to London and Milan. While the western
hemisphere begins its slow march into winter New York Fashion Week has given us an
interesting insight to what we’ll all be wearing spring and summer 2014. So let’s take a look
back to the week that was and see what’s going to be in Vogue next year.
Alexander Wang
29 year old Wang has been shooting up the fashion world A list for sometime and is now on
the name of every fashion conscious New Yorker. This year he combined leather dresses with
pink opera gloves, menswear with boxer shorts and black split shirts.
Tory Burch
The American designer decided on a flowers and French Rivera theme for her new collection.
Flowers were featured on belts, bags and bikinis. The floral designers were also carried
through to dresses and trousers, with Peter Pan collars adding to the innocence of her designs.
This is a collection for women who prefer to dress more modestly rather than provocative.
J Crew
The American multi brand retailer may not be well known on the other side of the Atlantic
but the company launched a collection featuring peppy colours, with patterns and easy to
wear silhouettes. Knitwear was paired with pre paint splattered khakis. This is a range which
will be popular with students and hipsters.
Diane Von Furstenberg
The former princess turned fashion designer went all out at this years fashion week
showcasing endless chiffon and safari prints with clear inspiration from Versace. Cork print
hot pants were teamed with cork wedges and rhombus and python prints added to the mix. .
Victoria by Victoria Beckham
Almost everyone knows the former Spice Girls singer though what you might not know is
that Mrs Beckham has given up the microphone for the sewing machine after launching her
own fashion collection. This fashion week saw designer spice launch a collection comprising
of a fitted torso kaleidoscope print dress and a panel pleat dress. While this collection may
not have attracted the glitz and glamour of the main runways its more affordable price tag
means it will probably be a low key success for her.
DKNY/Donna Karen
The American designer grabbed headlines this fashion week by using pop star Rita Ora as a
model to close her show DKNY. The Donna Karan main collection was a much more sedate
affair with various shades of brown in various Indian fabrics, with tunics and buccaneer hats.
The DKNY collection had Rita Ora dancing down the catwalk and featured tennis dresses
sexed up, with dungarees accessorised with silk scarfs and denim jackets featuring patches
and badges and plastic macs.
Kenneth Cole
Is a vegans worst nightmare with a collection comprising of the material the American
designer is well known for, leather. There were leather shorts, shirts and backpacks and a
baseball jacket with leather sleeve detailing.
