The Submarine film soundtrack gave us an indication that Alex Turner hadn’t lost his charm. That soundtrack was something to tide us over during the wait from 2009’s ‘Humbug.’ When the Sheffield band dropped ‘Do I Wanna Know’ this summer, we knew we were on route to gold. AM looks like it’s going to sell faster than Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories’ which let’s be honest was not memorable at all. People can’t forget that the Arctic Monkey’s paved way for similar acts such as The Killers and Franz Ferdinand. 2006-8 really was a year to be at a festival. However these boys have ejected huge parts of their old sound and combined it with a fresh RnB beat. Their riffs still remain the same but sexier than ever. It’s evident that Turner is nostalgic about a love he perhaps wants to rekindle. He begs for his ex lover’s answers in ‘Do I Wanna Know,’ ‘fireside’ and then expresses his honesty in giving into his feelings throughout, ‘why do you only ever call me when your high.’
Turner recounts drunken encounters in soon to be super hit, ‘No. 1 Party Anthem.’ You can sense he’s matured through his new found lyricism AM is bloody amazing!!!!
